Description

Remember how with a lot of 90s anime, the artbooks always had pics of the characters in modern/fashionable clothing? And that was a common thing? I kinda miss that. So here's Kaiya in a modern outfit.

Photo reference used for pose and lighting, but not traced. Everything, including the background, was done freehand by me.

Kaiya is my original character for my Naruto fic, To Unravel the Night.
Naruto belongs to Kishimoto.

I love images like this -- just the idea of catching a known character in a more normal, vulnerable moment has always appealed to me. I hope you consider doing more images of her like this, even if in her normal Naruto wear.

My critique is that this is very well done, with difficult angles for her features executed very well. I think both of her arms could stand to be a bit longer, moreso for the right arm than the left, but not terribly so. I'd also like to see a hint of her right thumb -- even if the original image hide it, I think you could improve on it by adding a touch of thumb to your work. Her left hand is done so well, it naturally made me look for her other hand, and not being able to see that thumb felt wrong.

If I had to point to one area that could be in need of attention, it would be that her clothes seem a bit stiff, especially in comparison to how well I think you conveyed the softness of her hair lying against her blouse and hanging behind her.

On the plus side, I can't help but wonder what she's thinking. It's a quiet, reflective moment that you captured beautifully, and that background -- good gravy it's just gorgeous. That tree is amazing, in my opinion, and I think blurring the fencing in the distance was a great touch.
